San Diego International Airport is hosting an event for small and local businesses to discuss business ventures with the airport, rental car companies and the new Rental Car Center’s third-party operator.
The "opportunity awareness" event will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Jan. 28 at the McMillin Companies Event Center in Liberty Station. The airport said in a release that small and local business representatives can attend to learn about business opportunities at the new Rental Car Center, bonding and contract financing assistance, and certification as a disadvantaged business enterprise. They can also receive an industry outlook and learn about opportunities for contracting within the airport's Capital Improvement Projects plan.
“The airport has made a strong commitment to supporting small and local businesses on all construction projects at the airport,” Thella Bowens, president and CEO of the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority, said in a statement. “Tangible examples of that commitment include hosting events like these that create awareness of contracting opportunities for small and local businesses that are so vital to our region.”
According to the airport, a large percentage of the work on the Rental Car Center, scheduled to open January 2016, has already been awarded to local and small businesses. More than $155 million in Rental Car Center contracts have reportedly been awarded to local businesses, while $60 million worth of that total went to small businesses.
