San Diego, California - On Friday, June 14, 2024, the Asian Business Association San Diego Board of Director Dr. GilAnthony Ungab was sworn in as a Board of Port Commissioners of the Port of San Diego, representing National City.
Dr. Ungab received a unanimous vote from the National City Council on Thursday, June 13, 2024. With his appointment effective immediately, he becomes the first Filipino American to serve on the Port of San Diego Board of Port Commissioners.
Born and raised in National City, Dr. Ungab is a retired private practice Cardiac Electrophysiologist and the former Medical Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center. He has served on the R&D committees at Boston Scientific, St. Jude, and Biotronik, and is a co-founder of Geneva Healthcare Solutions, a remote monitoring company acquired by BioTelemetry Inc. He currently serves as cofounder and CMO of Lucia Health Guidelines, a suite of AI solutions for care pathway coordination. Throughout his career, he has sought to improve access and equity of healthcare through advancing medical technology.

Dr. Ungab's appointment marks a significant milestone for the Filipino American community and the broader Asian Pacific Islander community especially representing National City which is nearly 20% Filipino-American. His leadership and vision are expected to bring innovative solutions to the Port of San Diego, fostering economic growth and enhancing community engagement.
